Ensure your pet has a positive, stress-free entrance into an exam by allowing them to wait in your car, our waiting room, wherever they’re comfortable, and has a preventative sedative or supplement if necessary.
We allow extra time for you and your pet to get accustomed to our examination room. We soothe your pet further by playing canine and feline stress-reduction music and infusing pheromones, or special calming chemical signals, throughout the room to help your pet relax as they explore.
Our Fear Free Certified Professionals then treat your pet by only using low, calm voices, and handle them without force, but gentle control techniques to examine and treat your pet. Furthermore, we’ll only examine your pet where they feel most comfortable, either on the exam table, in your lap, their carrier, or the floor. To help curb the stress of the experience, we’ll use treats, if medically appropriate, to associate good things with the vet. We employ specialized distraction techniques when performing brief moments of stress or pain from an injection or other procedure.
What You Can Expect When Visiting Little Paws
Before the appointment:
- Preventative sedation or supplements for pre-vet visit jitters
- Wait for your appointment wherever your pet is comfortable, either in your car or in our waiting room.
Before the examination:
- Extra time in the room before the vet arrives to allow your pet to adjust and explore the room.
- Pheromones, or special calming chemical signals only your dogs and cats can smell, are infused throughout the room to help them relax.
- Even the music soothes your pet as it was created specifically for canine and feline stress reduction.
During the examination:
- We speak only in low, calm voices around your pet.
- We’ll accommodate and examine your pet wherever he or she feels most comfortable whether that’s examined on the table, in your lap, in their carrier, or on the floor.
- We never use force when examining or treating your pet, but gentle control techniques, innovative tools, and medication when necessary.
- Unless medically inappropriate, we will give your pet treats during the visit to start the association of the vet with treat time! (This works best when your pet comes to the appointment hungry!)
- We use specialized distraction techniques to keep your pet focused on good experiences during procedures, such as injections, that might cause brief stress or pain.
